Ozcare Dementia Advisory Support Service

Servicing: Biggenden, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Monto, Mt Perry, Mundubbera

- The Dementia Advisory Service supports Home and Community Care (HACC) service providers across Queensland to further develop their skills in dementia care.

The Service works together with HACC-funded service providers to build a sustainable network of dementia-specific expertise to meet the needs of people with dementia, their carers and significan others.

Assistance with client care co-ordination. Access to professional advice through telephone or face-to-face consultation and in-home visits (including rural and regional areas) as required.

- The Dementia Support Service provides face-to-face support to people living with dementia and their carers through the provision of information, counselling and support delivered at the local level.

Referrals can be made by telephone, fax or written request and can come from any person or organisation. Dementia advisor is based in Bundaberg, covering North Burnett, Bundaberg and Rockhampton areas.

Steps Care for Carers Program

Servicing: Biggenden, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Monto, Mt Perry, Mundubbera

Care for Carers facilitate social/information groups in the North Burnett to provide an opportunity for carers of people with a disability or age-related illness to share information, learn about availability of services and enjoy a couple of hours carefree time over morning tea. Further information is available by phoning 07 4150 1900.

- Mundubbera: 10am on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. A bus service available from both Eidsvold and Gayndah.
-Monto: Tentatively booked for 4th Tuesday of each month.
-Gin Gin: Although not in the North Burnett, services carers from Mt Perry.

Counselling is also available to HACC eligible carers at no cost in person, over the phone or through Skype.

The Rural Mental Health Service is part of the Wide Bay Integrated Mental Health Service, incorporating the Bundaberg and surrounding rural areas.

Our mission is to provide effective treatment services for people experiencing mental illness and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing within the community.

Our main aim is to provide a comprehensive service to people with a serious mental illness whose opportunities for a good quality life have been reduced. Some of these illnesses include: Psychotic Disorders; Schizophrenia; Bipolar Affective Disorder; Depression; Anxiety Disorders; Eating Disorders.

We promote consumer directed recovery planning; and the inclusion of families, carers and significant others whenever possible.

The services specialise in community based treatment, and is supported by the 12 bed Mental Health Inpatient Unit, and the High Dependency Unit, at Bundaberg Hospital.

The multi-disciplinary team comprises of a mix of Psychiatrists, Doctors, Psychologists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and other specialist positions.

The service works in partnership with a wide range of organisations and groups in order to provide comprehensive support to people experiencing mental illness and those close to them.

Services Provide

1) Assessment and Referral Service
Members of the public can refer themselves, or be referred by relatives, friends, GP's or other community and healthcare agencies. This is a 24 hour Emergency Service. A full initial assessment will be conducted to decide the best management approach for each individual. those more suited to assistance provided by external agencies will be referred to them by the Mental Health Service.

2) Treatment and Support for mental illness
People who are eligible for service may be appointed a case manager with whom they devise an individual treatment plan. Principles of Recovery are applied with each individual in treatment planning. Wherever possible, families and significant others are actively involved in this process. Specialist teams cater for children and young people, adults, and older people aged over 65 years. The service also operates a 12 bed inpatient unit at Bundaberg.

3) Information Service
Information and advice is offered to members of the community about Mental Illness, Mental Health Services and the Queensland Mental Health Act.
