What is PDF?

Links followed by the letters PDF indicate documents that require additional software.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is free software that lets you view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files. PDF documents can also be identified by the following icons:

How Do I get Adobe Acrobat Reader?

The software is free of charge and is available for most computer systems and can be downloaded directly from the Adobe website:

Why Use PDF Documents?

A document can be formatted as an Adobe Acrobat PDF (Portable Document Format) file to retain the original formatting of the hard copy version.  PDF files provide graphic capabilities that have are not available in conventional Web browsers.

The PDF format is a universal format largely used for the distribution, viewing and printing of documents over the web.
